How to choose Western spurs

  • Shank length (1): 1" to 1 1/2" shanks keep cues light and suit most riders. Riders with long legs often like 2" or longer so they can reach the horse without turning the heel up.
  • Band (2): pick ladies' or youth sizes for smaller boots, and medium or large for adult boots. Check the heel band opening on the product page if it is listed.
  • Rowel (3): a bumper or smooth rowel is the mildest. Rosebud and many-point rowels spread the contact and feel softer than a few sharp points.
  • Spur straps (4) attach at the buttons and hold the spur on your boot. Measure around your boot instep to choose a strap length.
