Saddle pad shapes and sizing

Measuring a pad
- Spine: along the top edge, front to back.
- Drop: from the spine straight down to the bottom edge.
- Pick a pad that shows an inch or two all around the saddle.
- Lift the pad up into the gullet before you girth up so it doesn't press on the withers.

Do I use a half pad by itself?
No. A half pad goes on top of your regular saddle pad, under the saddle, to add cushion or absorb shock.
What does a riser or shim pad do?
It lifts the low end of the saddle so it sits level. A rear riser lifts the back, a wither pad lifts the front, and a correction pad with shims lets you adjust front and back.
Will a half pad fix a saddle that doesn't fit?
It can help with small fit issues, but it can't make a saddle that is too narrow fit. If in doubt, have your saddle checked by a saddle fitter.
