End styles

Knob or round end: rounded and gentle. Prince of Wales: a short, flat, square end. Hammer head: a wider, flat end. Bumper: no neck, so you can ask without turning your heel in. Slip-on: no straps needed; the band grips the boot heel. Rubber covers soften any end.

Size

Ladies' spurs have a narrower heel band for women's boots, Men's are wider, and Kids' are smallest.

How to wear them

  • Put the longer branch on the outside of your boot.
  • Rest the spur on the heel counter, just above the heel.
  • Angle the neck down, never up.
  • Buckle the strap over the top of your foot, on the outside.

Width

Most English spurs have loop ends that take a ½ in (13 mm) strap. Narrower ⅜ in (10 mm) straps give a slimmer look; check that your spur's loops fit.

How to thread them

  • Thread the strap through the outside branch of the spur, top to bottom.
  • Run it through the inside branch from the bottom, then back through the top.
  • Put the longer branch, and the buckle, on the outside of your boot.
  • Leave enough strap to fasten comfortably, then adjust to your liking.

Each strap's own length is listed in its product details.
