Questions & answers

What seat size do I need?

Answered by The Connected RiderMost adults ride in a 16″ to 17-1/2″ English seat. Sit with your knee bent and measure from the back of the knee to the back of your seat, then check the chart in the fit guide.

Will it fit my horse?

Answered by The Connected RiderSaddle fit depends on your horse’s back. With you in the saddle, you should fit 2–3 fingers between the pommel and the withers. If you’re not sure, ask a saddle fitter or use Ask a question and we’ll help.

Fit guide

English saddle sizes

Seat size for the rider

Thigh length	Seat size
Up to 16-1/2"	15" or smaller (kids)
16-1/2"–18-1/2"	16"
18-1/2"–20"	16-1/2"
20"–21-1/2"	17"
21-1/2"–23-1/2"	17-1/2"
Over 23-1/2"	18" and up

Sit in a chair with your knee bent at 90°, and measure from the back of your knee to the back of your seat.
Dressage saddles often run a size bigger because of the deeper seat. Endurance saddles with a horn are sized like Western saddles, usually 1"–2" smaller than your English size.

Gullet width for the horse

Equitare gullet bar	Width
Narrow (red)	7-11/16" (195 mm)
Medium narrow (blue)	8-1/16" (205 mm)
Medium (black)	8-7/16" (215 mm)
Medium wide (green)	8-7/8" (225 mm)
Wide (yellow)	9-1/4" (235 mm)

With you in the saddle, you should fit 2–3 fingers between the pommel and the withers.
The saddle should sit level, with the deepest part of the seat in the middle, and sit behind the shoulder blade.
The panels should touch the back evenly, with no bridging or rocking.

Saddle fit matters. If you're not sure, ask a saddle fitter or use Ask a question and we'll help.
